With a focus on excellence and integrity, we create a stimulating and positive working environment to ensure world-class service delivery.
A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence
CEI was founded on a legacy of pioneering achievements in Ophthalmology by Dr. Deo Singh, whose groundbreaking work began in the early 1980s. Notable milestones include:
• 1984: Performed Trinidad and Tobago’s first intraocular lens cataract surgery and the first consensual human organ donor transplant (corneal graft) at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
• 1986: Introduced biometry in cataract surgery, improving refractive outcome predictability.
• 1996: CEI performed the region’s first phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
• 2001: Initiated laser refractive surgery in collaboration with Dr. Anirudh Mahabir and the late Dr. Anthony Fraser.
Today, CEI is recognized as the first group of Ophthalmology practice in Trinidad and Tobago, providing multi-specialty eye care through a team of five expert Ophthalmologists. Our services span general Ophthalmology, pediatric care, medical and surgical retina, cataract, corneal surgery, and external eye diseases.
Unmatched Expertise
CEI takes pride in being the only facility in the Caribbean with an in-house team of Medical and Surgical Retina specialists, as well as anterior and posterior segment surgeons. We offer exclusive procedures such as combined corneal transplant, lens replacement, and vitrectomy surgeries, making us a beacon of hope for patients requiring advanced eye care solutions.
A Commitment to Community and Compassion
Guided by a strong sense of social responsibility, CEI extends its expertise to those in need through pro bono services, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Regional Health Authorities, Medical Associates Hospital, the Medical Association of Trinidad and Tobago, Rotary and Lions Clubs, and other NGOs.
For over two decades, CEI has remained steadfast in its commitment to preserving and restoring vision while fostering innovation, compassion, and excellence in eye care.
